David Rush is a platinum-selling recording artist, formerly signed to Pitbull’s label, Mr. 305 Inc. As a former in-center dialysis patient and now a dedicated home hemodialysis advocate, David knows firsthand what it means to live with chronic kidney disease. His resilience was on full display in 2009 when, as a patient, he took his home hemodialysis machine on a 40-city world tour with multi-platinum artist Pitbull, proving that CKD doesn’t have to limit one’s dreams.

Today, David is a motivational speaker, patient and doctor consultant, spokesperson, and kidney health advocate. He is also the host of the WinsOnly Lifestyle Podcast, which provides an inside look at his journey with CKD from a patient’s perspective.

For the past nine years, David has served on the Executive Committee of the Northwestern Kidney Core Center (Nu-GoKIDNEY). In April 2024, he became a corporate Kidney Care Options (KCO) educator at US Renal Care, furthering his mission to empower patients with knowledge about their treatment choices. He also serves on the board for KidneyX and The Kidney Health Initiative (KHI), an organization dedicated to advancing patient-centered therapies for kidney disease.

David’s leadership extends into research and policy as well. He is the Patient Co-Investigator & Co-Chair of the Patient Advisory Group for the ExPand research project, led by Dr. Dale Lupu and Dr. Alvin “Woody” Moss. Additionally, he serves on the Stakeholder Board for the NIH APOL1 and Racism Study Campaign.

In recognition of his tireless advocacy, David was awarded the ASN President’s Medal in November 2022 for his contributions to elevating the patient voice and expanding modality choices in kidney care.

Now a devoted husband, father of two, and self-proclaimed “Hope Dealer,” David is committed to spreading positivity and inspiring others through his journey. He lives by the mantra “Wins Only” a philosophy that no matter the circumstance, you are still a winner.
